Can you confirm my wheel choice please

Hi -

Trying to purchase a new set of wheels and tires for a '65 Cutlass Convertible. The car currently has tired SSII with 20 year old rubber. I'd like to upgrade to a set of 15" and was looking at the SSI style from Coker. My plan was to get SSI in 15x8 with 245 Cobra GTS tires. I will be lowering the car slightly just to get the right stance I'm looking for, nothing crazy.

I just want to make sure that the 15x8 with the 4.5" backspacing and 245/60 tires won't rub.

That was my plan. Why do you say that? I’ve seen people here doing 245 front / 275 rear.

Better check tire fitter site, have a '65 442, do not think they will clear on the front. Back might be close, ran 50 series on the back of mine back in the 70's and they were too wide. Nothing a set of air shocks couldn't fix.

I came across this from hot rod magazine. This is where I got the tire sizes

from.

Judging from these remarks I have come up with an alternate plan.

Front: 15x7 BS 4.375 with 215/65
Rear: 15x8 BS 4.5 with 245/60

Does this seem more appropriate?

Thanks Rocket, I read through that previously. The rear on that car s different, after doing some research it's overall 2" wider so the 5.5 backspacing is effectively the same as 4.5 on my car. I think i'll be good with the 215/245 combo.
