Need a little help from you guys , I'm looking at what I think is a 71 sx , how to tell for sure?
Also for anyone that might know how many hard tops were there built green on green ?

You need the build sheet. Others might be able to give more detail on other parts of it. If I recall, the hood hinges have an extra brace. Of course, it should have the numbers matching 455.

 

Without good paperwork there is no way to prove the car is a real SX. There are several clues to look for but again, none of them prove anything. But like Joffroi said, if the engine is a 455 & the last 6 of the vin are on it, it could be. Sometimes broadcast cards can be found stuffed in the springs of the bucket seat back (if equipped)? Or I've seen them under the original carpet near the door sill plates, or maybe on top of the gas tank.

 

Didn't the 71 SX have an exclusive transmission? Code "OD"

You might be right. I'm not an expert on the SX's.

 

Ok thank you all . Looks as though I missed it which is ok being my hands are full with my 72 vert. The guy said someone is suposta pick it up Friday but if they don't I'm headed to go get it . I had to tell my wife if I get it she can have the convertible lol.
