Wheels designed 10-15 years ago, now US Mags

Does anyone remember when those Olds rims were designed by a member of realoldspower and then couldn't get them produced? I think US Mags bought the design? I think Luke on realoldspower was trying to help out (can't remember his last name) and I was wondering if anyone has gotten a set and how they like them. It looks like this:

Anyone know anything about them?

These wheels were designed in 2004/5 by Gary Willard and, yes, Luke helped promote them.

I lost track of them until your post.

They're still beautiful!

Here they are on Luke's 1983:

A set of those on my black 75 Hurst Olds would sure look good.

I remembered the people and timeline after I posted this. The 15x8 is $931. The size I want is $1378 17x8. Too much

I remember Gary's wheels. I personally don't think the US Mag version looks like Gary's, I doubt they bought the design. The chrome portion around the "window" is larger on the US Mag wheel, and the chrome also connects to the center cap, that isn't so on Gary's

I do like them both though.

US Mag had these out in 2015 https://www.pro-touring.com/threads/...e-Rally-wheels

Way too rich for my blood. I will just repaint the original wheels.

FWIW, Gary's wheels were 18 x 8s. They are two-piece billet works of art that finished develpment in mid-2008. NOBODY had them when he designed and made the wheels. I believe the original estimate was about $4K-ish for the wheel set once production was scheduled, but obviously didn't make it that far. They ended up with a very deserving person who is going to use them on his total ground-up 1987 442 455 project car.

And here's the ingenious way he put them together to get the back space he wanted. IIRC, his runout was darn near spot on minimal. Factory probably couldn't have done a better job.

Thanks for the date correction. The picture of Luke's car was dated August 2007, so I have no idea where I got the 2004/5 timeframe.

No big deal. I think he only had a couple of them made at the time Luke can obviously provide more details around that but development probably started way back then. I can’t recall. Regardless, it was a pretty cool undertaking. And Huch is one lucky SOB to be in a place to snag them up.
