Wheel primer ,Thornton Paint for SSII

I have a set of SSII's that require painting.
I have cans of Thortons wheel paint. Question is what primer to use under their paint?
Instructions on the can say "if surface needs primer" it doesn't specify epoxy.or lacquer based.
I can't sand after primer so what should I use??
Is it obvious I dont do body and paint???

When I painted my SS wheels, I used spray can primer from Space Age Auto Paint in Mesa. I had stripped the wheels to metal and I didn't realize that I bought both etching primer and regular primer until I was spraying the wheels. Now 10+ years later both look the same, so I guess the regular primer did as good a job as the etching primer.

My paint was acrylic enamel. If your paint doesn't say what it is, I'd say check with Thornton so you get the right primer for the paint.

I used spray can epoxy primer on the wheels of my 75 Hurst. I had them sand blasted then primed them and followed up with two coats of single stage acrylic enamel with the hardener in it. It has only been a couple years but I am very pleased. One you initiate the primer you have to be ready to use it.
