Wheel Change Question

Looking at a used set of 15x7 wheels. I currently have 225 70 R14's on 72 Cutlass Convertible. Anything to consider about changing wheel sizes? How much change will I have in the stance of the car and clearances? Anything to worry about or things to think over?

Most 15x7 wheels have the same offset as stock, but I would check the manufacturers specs to be sure. The wheel size has nothing to do with stance it's all up to the tire!

About the only thing I can think of is changing the overall diameter of the wheel/tire will change your speedo reading. You can either use GPS to calculate your actual speed, or you can change the speedo drive gear in the tranny. Other than that? Let's see what you're looking at! BTW I run 225/70/14's on my Cutlass and the speedo is off with them too. Original size for my car was F/78/14 which would be closer to a 195/60/R14 I think. I like the handling and ride of the 225's though.

A 235/60R15 would be within 1/8th inch of the 225/70R14 in overall diameter, hardly enough to affect the speedo. It's a little wider, would crown nicely on a 7" wheel, and you shouldn't have any clearance issues.

I just put 245/60R15s on my '71. Fills the wheelwell nicely. My speedo reads about 5mph faster than actual. Ride is great. I get a little rub agaist the stabilizer bar from my right front at full lock. No issues otherwise.

Don't forget if the speedometer reads differently it's because you have altered the overall gearing, which will affect performance and fuel economy.
