VHT compare to Thornton 1970 argent grey need advice
Need your advice wheel on left is VHT paint
wheel on right Thornton paint
VHT had a little more gloss
Thornton was more satin but darker
What is close to original Thanks
I don't have anything to compare them to but I would think the Thornton would be closer. I would probably use the Thornton since it will probably only take two cans and in the scheme of things, the cost is a a small part of a restoration.
VHT SP 997 Amazon 12.99 a can
i think Thornton is a little dark but has the matte finish
VHT color is nice but has a gloss to it if that’s what you like.

Reasonably sure this wheel paint is original from 1968. This was an early takeoff and stored indoors for a long time before I got it.
Based on that id say the Thornton was closer to OEM but seems a bit too shiny, that could just be fade on my rim though. 68's didn't use the stainless inserts and the darker color makes the brighter paint or trim pop IMO.
The OEM argent on the bolt on cap rims was darker than the snap on cap rims which was was more silver (not sure they still called it argent) than either of your rims.
Or maybe my old eyes just aren't that reliable anymore.
I've seen original wheels in argent and sometimes the colors aren't always exactly the same. Some have slightly lighter shades than others for some reason. At least the later ones tended to. Early ones all seemed to be a bit darker. Although, if I had to pick between the two offerings, I'd go with the Thornton. Originally, it was a low-gloss color, that much I know.
