Tire/wheel size question

I posted this in another category before I realize there was a wheel/tire specific thread so here it is again. Thanks. I have a 1972 ]Cutlass S that I am going to finally start dressing up. I've been reading as much as I can on the net(mostly from 442.com). What I would like to do is put 15x7- 3.75 backspaced American Racing Torque Thrust wheels on the front with BF Radial T/A 225 60's. 15x8.5-3.75 backspace with the 275 60 T/A's on the rear. I can afford this set up but not much more. From all accounts this will work from what I have researched. Could I get some advice from you guys about my thoughts before I order as to clearance problems and such. It would be much appreciated. Thanks, Joe

Why 225-60s up front? Those are really short and not very wide. 235 or 245 would fit with no issues and probably be easier to locate. I ran both of those sizes in the past.

I'm running 255/60/15 in the front and 275/60/15 in the rear with no problems. Still have room on my 72. Stock height springs though. I had the front 1" lower a couple of years back and it rubbed a little in a tight turn.

Post some of the pic . I am in the same boat. I just bought 15x8 ssI's. I am leaning towards Ziff's combo but have thought of 295/50's in the back with 255/60's up front. Would like to see some more combos

255 60 15s up front?...Really?

That will feel like a skid steer. Way too wide in the front in my opinion.

As I posted above, I have run 235-60 and 245-60 up front with good results. Either one should work well for you.

I like the look and it handles very well. Been running them almost 4 years now. I had the same setup on a chebby. I like it.

I ran 255/60/15's all the way around on a 70 Cutlass S I had years ago when I worked for Super Shops. They were take-offs from a 72 Corvette. Free tires always works for me.

I had 255/60-15s on all four corners of my 69 H/O on the factory wheels with no problems. Car drove and handled great.

Here's 245/60/15 F and 275/60/15 rear on 15x7 and 15x8. For 15" I think this is the perfect combo for 70-72 for street. Will be getting some 325/50/15s and 15x10s for the track soon but 2.5" tail pipes need to be moved "in" about an inch to make room:

BTW - I had one car that 255/60/15s hit at full turn and another car that didn't hit at all. Safest to go with 245/60/15 max on the front to be safe IMHO.

Thanks for the offer. I went with the US Mags Standards in silver. 225/60 on 15x8 on the fronts and 275/60 on 15x9 on the back. I think it looks pretty sharp. Before and after.

Looks good.

Hang on to those original wheels. Steelies and hub caps are probably rare these days and may be valuable to someone doing a resto.

They are safely tucked away in the shop. One will have to be used for a spare for a little while.
