How many of you run a wider tire in the rear and a skinny in the front ?

im thinking of running 255 55 16 rear
195 55 16 fronts

any problems you think ?

 

I had a similar combination but with 15s on my 87 442 years back. Drove fine as best I can remember.



It's been over a decade and unfortunately I cannot recall the exact specs of the combo. But I believe the rears were 255 60 15s (huge).

On your end the 1979 Calais came with a naturally skinny tire.

195 75 14 = 25.5 inches tall, tread width 5.4 inches, section width 7.6 on a 5.5 inch wide rim. (Factory tire.)
195 55 16 = 24.4 inches tall, tread width 6.0 inches, section width 7.9 on a 6.0 inch wide rim.
255 55 16 = 27.0 inches tall, tread width ________, section width 10.0 on a ____________ . ( Difficult to find specs on this tire.)

Backspacing and rim width are the key to it working on your ride....
