Hello! I'm hoping you gurus can push me in the right direction. I have a 1966 Dynamic 88 that is finally ready for some cool wheels. I am going to get either Cragar SS's in 15 x 6 or 15 x 7, both 5 on 5 bolts. The question comes down to offset. I love my Dynamic 88, but it has a dowdy sort of "granny" look, partially because the wheels seem to hug the car. A bit of negative offset would move the wheels out a little and look vastly better. I have seen many people with much more knowledge than me recommend staying with a zero offset. Any thoughts on this subject, or with my selection of wheels in general? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

 

The Crager SS would be a good choice IMO. I don't know what look you are after but the SS with standard off set would give a more stock but dressy look compared to a deeper dish wheel. Since I am old this is what I would do. The stock wheels with the factory 3 bar spinner spoke hubcaps are attractive as well but the 15 inch wheels open up many more tire choices.

 

While I realize it's a different body, I got American Racing TTOs (VN309) for my 67 Delta. Fronts are 15x7 with 235/70-15s and rears are 15x8.5 with 275/60-15s. The only available offsets on these wheels were -0.25" on the 7" wide and -1" on the 8.5" wide. I was a little concerned that the rears were going to be really close to the fender lip. They are, but they look GREAT. They really fill the wheel opening. I'm very happy with this combo and sizes.

 

How about a photo or two of this? I've got a '67 Delta myself and would be interested to see what this looks like. Thanks.

 

If you want Cragars in either 15'x6" or 15'x7" you don't have much of a choice on offset. It's either their standard offset or the deep dish which would only work with a very short tire in the front. I think you'll be happy with 15"x7" with a larger tire than you have now.
One piece of advice for the Cragars - for your car they will either be uni-lug or they offer a direct fit 5x5 bolt pattern. It will still take alug nut with a shank & a washer but def get that over the uni-lug.

I couldn't help but notice this on your car. It is uncanny, but I have yet to see a '67 Delta that wasn't a factory or brochure photo that didn't have this misalignment between the bottom edge of the trunk lid and the trim around the taillights.

 

I see that your car has a passenger side rearview mirror. Is that a factory option or an aftermarket add-on? I could use one on the right side of my car.

 

There was no factory installed RH mirror, but this is the correct dealer installed RH mirror. I think it looks better on MY car, actually...

The new wheels and tires are ON! The difference in handling is unbelievable. The difference in coolness is even greater.

I'm reading every post I can find on Cragar as I'm ready to order for my 70 CS, the bolt pattern had me baffled

 

Thanks CS-Bill! I don't think you can do any better than Cragar SS wheels. The Dynamic 88 is in the garage while I (slowly) replace the exhaust system and the steering gear. Hopefully I'll get those wheels spinning again soon.

 

What size and offset wheels did you use? Also what tire size?

 

I have been planning to put disc brakes on the front so will need to upgrade to 15 wheels. I have been considering the American Racing VN502. They would be 15x7 with 5x5 lugs 0 offset 4" backspacing. Looking to put 245 60-15s all around (BFG TA Radials). I've photoshopped them on a 66 Starfire I found on the internet (not mine).

Has anyone installed 15x7 with that offset on a 66 fullsize with similar sized tires? I am concerned that the fronts will rub the lower control arms at full steering lock. My current stock rims 14x6 with 235 70-14s rub the lower control arm at full lock.

235/70-14s are 27" in diameter. 235/70-15s are 28" in diameter. My 1967 D88 has exactly the same front suspension as your 66. I have 15x7 American Racing TTOs with something like -0.25" offset (which moves the wheels closer to the control arms) and BFG 235/70-15 tires. I have no rubbing issues.
