SS Wheels for '72 Vista Cruiser

Hi all, my '72 Vista Cruiser has the stock 14 x 6 wheels and covers. The wheels and covers are in good condition but all the tires are getting old and need replacing from a safety standpoint. This seems like a good time to upgrade to 7 inch wheels and, maybe, Super Stock wheels. And if I went with a SS repro, I could go to 15 inch wheel and slightly lower profile tires. I don't know which style of SS, but I am leaning towards SS 1 as they don't appear to require rims or painting. I do have a couple of questions that maybe someone could help with. Firstly, would a 7 inch width wheel fit in the spare tire compartment? Secondly, any recommendations for the best repro manufacturer and suppliers. Many thanks!

if you have disc brakes, make sure your ss1 will clear the caliper. and yes the 7" wheel will fit in the well,as long as you dont go wild on tire width

All new repro SS I wheels will clear disc brakes. Fitment in the spare tire well is a function of the tire more than the wheel.

Robert,

For the spare to fit in the well, find a tire with the narrowest section width that has adequate load rating.

The factory-fit tires were rated 1770 pounds at 32 psi.

I did that, but still had to reduce air pressure to allow it to fit. I put a small 12 V air compressor in the tire compartment for restoring pressure when needed.

Good luck.
