Should ss1's have trim rings?

I have original ss1's on my 1970 442 w/o trim rings. Is this correct or should they have the rings? I see 442's with and without them.

Based on my experience, the 1970's and 1972's should have a trim ring, while the 71's seem to have a chrome rim and don't use the trim ring. Must have been a great job to sit a desk and make these grandiose decisions. I like the chrome rim version better, provided the chrome is gleaming!

I have never seen any SS1s with trim rings, I have seen SSIIs with and without.

'70 and '72 14"x7" SSIs were all had black painted outer rims and used trim rings. '71s could have the same black/trim ring SSIs or an optional all chrome SSI wheel which did not need the trim ring.

It is correct for '71, but looks very nice on your '70.
