Right tires for 14 x 7 SSI's

They will be going on a Twilight Blue 1970 Cutlass S with disc brakes in front. Looking for the right size raised white letter tires that will best fill the wheel well in height, width and girth without looking too overinflated or bubbled. Any suggestions ? Maybe pictures of your set up? Point me in the right direction?

THANK YOU

I think 225/70/14 is your best option on the dwindling supply of 14" tires. BFG or Firestone. Pricier options exist if you want original style belted tires.

Cooper cobras are available in that size.
I agree that the 14" choices are getting very thin!

That will be a beautiful looking car. Twilight blue is awesome. A friend of mine had a 70 SX W32 in Twilight blue. It has SS1s with Goodyear Eagle STs (no longer available), the same tires as on my 71 SX. I will need new tires this year and will have to get the 225/70-14 BF Goodrich. The 225/70-14 tire size is the correct replacement for the original G70 -14 size. I'm trying to send pictures, but the Forum isn't allowing them for some reason. I'll try later.

@ Scott_442. Did you buy the firestones online. I'm in the market for some 14inch tires.

my 2 cents

The right tires for these rims are any that hold air. Then these rims can be used to store your car on. Set them aside & put some 15" rims on the car. It will improve the look & the handling & your choice of sizes is far superior.

I'm looking at tires for my 1968 Cutlass S and want to go with B.F. Goodrich Redlines
I have 1970 ssi rims so the outer part of the rim is painted black and only the inner rim is chrome. They originally took trim rings in 1970 but i want to leave them just painted black with no trim ring. I looked a t a buddys 1970 Cutlass S with 225/70R14 tires on it and i thought it looked kind of large in the wheel well. I was going to pu ton 215/70R14 on it but now reading this post everyone is saying 225 is the right size. i thought an F70 was a 205 and a G70 was a 215 but someone on hear said a G is a 225 can anyone verify? Thanks

tcarroll, according to tire size helper the g70 14 was 26.8" od with 782 rpm's closest fit is a 225 70r14 wich is 26.4 od and 764 rpm's. The f7014 are 26.2 od and 769 rpm's good luck.

I am really having a hard time with this guys. i saw my buddys 70 Cutlass S with 225/70R14s on it and I really thought it looked like to much tire and not enough space in the wheel well. It is really just the look I guess. I want to buy redlines and they are expensive so dont want to regret my purchase. I think i would like the look of the 215/70R14s but 90% of postings are saying that the 225 is the right conversion size for a G70 factory tire. These are going on 1970 ssi rims. Someone help me my brain is about to explode!

What he said. Don't stress too much! 225/70/14 and be done with it.

About right for BFG, think Coopers are similar, and the slightly cheaper Firestone Indy 500's no longer available. I bought real cheapo Primewells (~$70?) from Firestone and put the blackwall out since I usually have my 15" rims on the car. Over $200 for Polyglas repops if originality is important.
