Recommended alternate replacement rims for1956 Olds

I need to find a set of suitable replacement steel rims for my 1956 Olds Super 88. Doing an onsite search here, I've come up with suggestions to try rims from 70's-80's full sized pickups or SUV's since they have the same 5x5 bolt pattern. Is the backset the same as the 1956 factory originals? Has anyone successfully done this? I need some voices of real world experience with what works. Any help/recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The wheels from early '80's Regencys will fit, 15X7...I had them on my '57, 98 for a short time.

7" Rims

So putting 7" rims on a 1956 88 would fit?

I had a little trouble getting the 7" rims to fit on the rear of the 98. Had to wiggle and jiggle to get them between the drum and the fender on the right side but not the left. Front fits OK but rubs on inner fender by the frame on hard turns. The 7" wheels can be found on the '80's wagons...Statue.

Some 1983 ,84, 85 Astro And Safari Vans Had Aluminum Wheels As Optional. They Were Very Good Looking And Had The Centers Colored Keyed , But With Aluminum Around Outer Edges. They Were 15" X6" With 5 on 5 Bolt Pattern and Should Be Perfect Fit! If I Ever Go Away From My Original "Fiesta Hub Caps" That's They Way I Will Go! Google An Image Of Them. Larry

I purchased steel wheels from Wheelsmith. You can specify width, backspacing, and center bore for a perfect fit.

Wheel Smith, 1601 Commerce, Corona, CA 92880. 951-898-4563. The item number on the invoice is 02650+375. I suspect there is some kind of code built into that. I ordered ours with 3 1/8" center bore, which turned out just a smidgen too big. I got them unfinished, but they'll powdercoat them for you, too, if you want to spend the extra jing.
