How the hell...

do I get these off....stupid question I know and being an old school tire guy this is embarassing...I'm pretty sure you have to unscrew the centre cap before prying the hubcap off but just want to double check so I don't mangle the caps.

Cheers

I believe you just have to pry the hubcap off!! I don't think the center cap has anything to do with it!

its just a hubcap. just pry on the edge with a big screwdriver and htey will come off.

The center spinner is attached with 3 screws on the back, don't try twisting or prying it or they break off.

Use two pry bars. Take it slow and easy. Be very careful as to not damage them. Unlike modern wheel covers, these things seem to be on for life.

Hey RAMBOW and oldcutlass, these are wheel covers, not hubcaps. Sorry guys, I had nothing better to do than be a smart azz.

Not "old school" enough, apparently...

The center locking bolt on wire wheel covers didn't start until the 1980s. As noted, these are just held on with spring tabs like any other 1960s wheel cover.

Hey Joe....ya that was a little before my time The one I tried was really tight and just wanted to be safe so I didn't ruin them. Better safe than sorry and I'd rather look like an idiot than ruin something I can sell or re-use later.

Cheers

Quite the opposite of stupid, you did the smart thing.
You had a problem and weren't sure how to fix it. So you asked for help and someone was able to help you do the job properly.
It makes no difference wether you had trouble getting the wheel covers off or were rebuilding the transmission, you stopped when you were unsure what to do next and got expert advice.
You have my respect sir.

Roger.
