Help!

Ok, so I have a 71 cutlass S and I really like SSII Rally wheels, but it seems that no one makes them any more. I would really like to get 2 15x10's for the back and 2 15x7's for the front but am not having any luck. I need 15's for the breaks that are going on the back. I have a set of 14x7's now and I heard that the center of a 14 and a 15 are that same size, so I guess I could get some one to build wheels for me. And my the last option I have is to buy some after market wheels, I have found some wheels that I kind of like
http://customwheelsmarket.com/1793rewhdebl1.html
they are nice and the care would look good with them but not really what I was hoping for. So and advice, pointers, recommendations would be welcome.

I don't know of anyone that makes a 15x10 SSII wheel. There are others on the forum that us a larger wheel similar to what your 2nd choice is that should chime in.

At the Long Island Olds show last year, this guy showed-up with a beautiful '71 W30. I've attached a pic of the machine. The rear rims (which I really regret not getting a better picture of) are actually SSII style and they were very deep. I guess he had someone widen the rim?

After a bit of checking, Specialty Wheel makes a Chrome SSIII in quite a few sizes including 15x10. Accent color of silver, black, and gold. Also a Hurst Olds style with bolt on caps.

I'm not a fan of those later '80s style chrome SS wheels. I guess they're too new for my taste.

You are correct, the center sections of the 14" and 15" SSII/SSIII wheels are the same size (14x6 are the same as the 7" 14 and 15 wheels).
Stockton Wheel in California makes wider widths using your original wheels centers. The owner died a while back and the company closed but it was resurrected under new ownership and is back in business:

http://www.stocktonwheel.com/powder_coat.html

There are a few other companies that do the same wheel widening but I don't have any contact info for them.

I'm in the same situation as you. My car currently has 14x7 bolt-on center cap wheels but I found two sets of later '70s 15x7 push-on center cap wheels. I am painting one set body color and I'm contemplating having the other wheels widened. Just not sure where I want to go with the wheels at this point, but I know I don't want the chrome '80s wheels on my '71.

Freshly sandblasted and ready for primer:

I just checked specialty wheels web site, only listing SS1's.
Try this site better with pricing, out of stock on 15x10

I did that Eric! But I went to their website again to make sure i was not batty came up with SS1's only again!

I am trying to get used to this damn windows 8.1, the old days right click copy and paste! Now I have to use the link icon on this site!specialtywheel.com

And the other possibilty that their website is not up to date?

I don't disagree with what your posting the link works just great! Everything that
blueoval has, just that they had pricing for the wheels and accessories and freight up front with out calling to confirm all points.

I don't know why those wheels don't show up on their website but are in the catalog.

Back in the 1980's I had a set of 15X10's made by Willamette Wheel in Portland Oregon. No idea if its still the same owner, but when I did a google search I came up with this contact information:

Willamette Custom Wheel Service
1235 SE Grand Ave
Portland, OR,97214
503‑232‑8141

They did a good job for me, cutting the center out of 14X6 bolt on center cap wheels and welding them into the 15X10 blanks. You might check with them to see what their prices are.

Repo SS11

I bought these from Specialty Wheel while they were still in OR in 2011. They moved to CA shortly there after & no longer make these. Sure glad I bought my set before production ended.

So it seems that no one in st.Louis builds steel wheels any more. So it looks like I will be using Stockton wheel ( thanks Fun71). I called them today and they basically told me that they can take my 14's and do just about any thing I want. They can even do chrome outer rims. It will cost about 200 more to do that and I am having a hard time deciding if it is worth it. I also have to really decide what sizes I want. Im thinking 15x7 on the front and 15x9 on the back with 4.75 back spacing. and then go with bf goodrich radial T/A's 235/60R15 on the front and 275/60R15 on the back.

Sounds good to me.

Can they actually do 9" wide? I didn't see that on their web site but if they can do it that would make me happy!

they can, of course you have to pay for it. I think he said some thing like $290 a wheel if you want the chrome outer.

If I remember right I think he said some thing like 190 for 15x9 no chrome. I know it was going to be 900 for 2 15x7 and 2 15x9 with chrome and around 700 with out. that is with giving him my 14's.

that is a great look, what are the size and back spacing on those wheels, and what tires are your running?

295/50 15x10 5 inch backpacking and 245/60 15x8 4 1/2 backpacking. Cooper tires. If the wheelsvintique website doesn't show the size and backpacking you are looking for, call them.

I had 275/60R 15 BFGs on my 71 Cutlass on the rear with regular old 15x7 SSII wheels- They wore fine and no issues at all. I wonder if you really need special wheels for those?

Im surprised they worked that well on 15x7. I like the look of a deeper dish like a 9 or 10 and it gives me more options like a 295/50r15.

I agree that the 275s look better on a 8" or 9" wheel, but I talked to a guy at our All Olds Show last year who had 275-60-15s on a set of 15x7 wheels on his '72 HO. He said he had no issues with that setup, and also that GM used the same tire/wheel size on the Chevy 454SS truck. I can't confirm that, but as he said, if GM did it from the factory then it should be OK.

These are re-po versions of the 1983-84 HO rim. They work and look ok. I have them on my 1969 442. The ones on my green car above are correct for the older cars and now discontinued.
