Custom SSII wheels?

I currently have a set of Weld Draglite wheels on my car. Rear, 15x10, 275/60R15, the front are 15x5 (I think) with 205/75R15. I like the big-n-little street machine look, however, my wife HATES the wheels.

I already have a pair of 15x8 SSII, my question, what’s the narrowest I can go with the SSII, and still be able to install the trim ring?

I would love to go back to the 325/50 tires I had on the rear, unfortunately nobody makes that size in standard street rubber compound. Anybody know if that has changed? I put a pair of BFG Drag Radials on the car right before my wife and I left for Power Tour in 2008 (I think) I’m glad she went with me. The tires were about half worn away when we got home. If she wasn’t there to see it, she would have accused me of torching off the tires every intersection.

My thinking is I’ll run the Olds Rally Wheels most of the time to please her (happy wife, happy life?) and the Weld stuff when I’m playing.

Crap. Just had another thought. I have 1/2 wheel studs all around on my car. Is it possible to use acorn lug nuts with 1/2 studs?

The half inch studs may be a problem for the lug holes in the SSII wheels. 1/2" taper seat lug nuts are easy to find.

The depth of the trim ring depends on the offset as well as the width. Assuming your 8" wheels are zero offset, you can find Chevy trim rings used on 15x8 Rally wheels. Those are about the widest that I know of. This is why a lot of the custom width SSII wheels get chrome rims.

How about a couple of 14x6 SSII wheels for the front skinnies?

I’m still in the brainstorming part of the project. If the 1/2 studs are going to be a problem, there is no point in any more planning.

I don't know if it's a problem or not. Sounds like time for a quick fit check.
