Brake caliper clearance
Brake caliper clearance
Greetings All,
In the process of fitting some aftermarket 15 SSI wheels onto a 1972 Cutlass. The wheels are brand new 15 x 8 with zero offset. The car has Wilwood six piston front brakes with the 12.19 rotors, and herein lies the rub.
When putting the wheel on the car it is about a quarter of an inch from the wheel mounting surface when the caliper hits the rim. Its not an almost-made-it kind of interference, but a Full Stop. Would really like these wheels on this car. American Racing makes the Outlaw wheel in 15 and these fit over the caliper just fine. Have considered a small spacer or grinding the caliper down a little bit, but grinding a caliper scares me a little. Somebody designed them that way for a reason, so I leave them alone.
Has anyone else worked with putting 15 wheels over the 6 piston Wilwood calipers? These are the calipers from the 12.19 rotor A-Body kit. Suggestions or ideas? I would appreciate any thoughts anyone might have.
Thanks,
David
