70: Code XT for 442, code HF for all exc 442 & sw with disc brake,
Code XE for all exc 442 & sw ( XT was a 14x7 and both HF and XE were both
14x6);

Yes, except for the 67 Tempest information and the XC information regarding a 68-69 chevelle. Did you see the additional information added to the post?

HF code wheels should be for disc brakes which your car has. An identical 68 without disc brakes may have received the same size wheel but a different code because of the drum brakes. The factory assembly manuals have a page showing all wheel codes and applications.
As far as wheel codes go:
Example: K 1____7(valve)26 _____LZ
_________9
K1 w/9 below is Kelsey Hayes, plant 1 as was said above, year 1969
7=July
26=July 26th
LZ=specific wheel code this one being for the 70-72 SSI
Motor Wheel Corp. did the same thing but had an M where the K is above.

Will the 70-72 SS1-LZ code- fit my 68 442 with the 4 piston caliper?....I am pretty sure the earlier SS1 did not....

With special thanks to Matt Kocks, I now have the 4 original steel wheels to my '68 442 (and one of the original wheel covers). They are all unmounted and I have all the numbers off them. They are Motor Wheel R-code steel wheels and the numbers are exactly the same on all 4 of them:
External:
M1/8 7 (valve stem hole) 8 R
So the wheels being made July 8th '68 means the paint had just enough time to dry for the 07D body date on the car.
Internal:
14 x 6 JK 8
800 MADE IN USA
(motor wheels logo) M1/8
G 3 G

I didn't read the entire thread carefully, so maybe this was covered already:
The application code spanned multiple Divisions. It was not unique to, say, Oldsmobile.
For example, the XT code plain steel 14x7 wheel used on 1970 442s was also used on COPO Cameros. I believe it was used on the COPOs before the 442 actually.
The good news is it's easier to find rare parts when you know they had some Chevy applications. The bad news is, you've got to fight the COPO owners for 442 wheels. $$$
