'70 - '72 SS II Wheels with FE2 Suspension
Done a search and couldn't find anything on it. So what is the difference between the SS II wheels that came on A body cars built with the FE2 and the SS II wheels that came on A body cars with standard suspension?
Standard 14" X 7" SS II Wheel - Part # 406069 - Code "MA" (stamped by valve stem)
FE2 equipped A body 14" X 7" SS II Wheel - Part # 3966936 - Code "XT" (stamped by valve stem)
The FE2 (or Rallye) suspension consisted of heavier duty front & rear springs, shocks, front & rear stabilizer bars (sway bars), lower control arms (boxed) and 14" X 7" wheels. I don't see any reason for this other than maybe backspacing?
Anyone know the answer?

Why would backspacing even be an issue when the 7" wheel will fit the clearance needed for disc brakes? FWIW I have standard SSIII wheels on my car and upgraded it to a FE2 suspension last year. No difference in how the wheels bolt on.
I looked up the wheels too. Are you using Group 5.801? Can't find the reference to the numbers you listed.

Al I came across it in the "Oldsmobile Engine, Drivetrain & Suspension Interchangeable Parts Buyers Guide" and said Hmm what difference does it make?
Yep Group 5.803

It shows the wheels in question Pt# 3966936 as primed, so would SS III be required if you opted for FE2?
My car came ordered with FE2 but came with SS II I'll have to check to see if in fact they are coded XT. The book may have misinfo in it like so many other "sources" have

The MA and the XT were Heavy Duty wheels.
Like you said, the MA were SSII and the XT was the Hub Cap or Dog Dish wheel.
The SSI were LZ and those also were Heavy Duty wheels.
The IF wheel was a 442 option (Cap) wheel.
ALL of these are 14x7.
I call them Heavy Duty because they were on the 442's

Thanks for the reply Mikes442 So the XT wasn't a SS II wheel but a steel wheel with dog dishes (hub caps) that would be the default set of wheels if FE2 was ordered and RPO N66 wasn't specified?

Correct.
XT wheels were also used on the Camaro/Chevelle/Novas.
Z28 - RS - SS
Most 442's were ordered with what ever was the cheapest so the customer could put on his own Cragars/ETs/or what ever and the tires of he liked.
Some times he would even have the dealership change it before he even picked it up.
