I wanted opinions on what size tires for my 15" wheels. This 68 on Epay right now has 275/60/15's rear and 225/60/15's on the steering end. Do you like the big meats out back? Wouldn't a 235/60/15 be taller in the front and fill the wheel well a bit more (size on my old white rims on the car now)?

The 10" wheels on that car don't have enough back spacing and makes them stick out too far. 275 60 on the back is fine with the right wheel. I think a 215 or 225 70 would be better choice for the front.

Tom,
I posted this before but I don't know if you've seen it. I run 245 60 15's all the way around and have an oversize front sway bar. The fronts hit the sway bar when I turn to lock. I like the way the rears look but they could definitely be 265 60 15's and look a little better (I'd definitely have to go to at least a 15x8 rim for that).
I don't like the backspacing on that rim on the ebay pic. I bet they hit on a hard bump. He's obviously got the car jacked with air shocks, taller springs, or maybe air bags. You can check but you can probably run a 265 60 15 on a 15x8 rim with a standard backspacing and it will fit in the wheelhouse.

To me, that first pic looks like 295/50's, which look rediculous.
On my 68, I had 275/60 on rear, 245/50 on front. I don't like the height to width of the 275/60, but in a different brand, it may look different. On my 70, I am thinking about 255/60 rear, 235/60 front. Anything smaller than that up front will not fill the wheel wells.

There used to be 265/60/15s (J60-15s) - current 15" tire selection is getting "thin".
IMO the "ebay car" has too much wheel for the tire. - I'd guess they're 15x10 wheels with 275/60/15 tires.
While, technically they fit - wider wheel width than tread width doesn't give a muscle car the correct look.

on factory back space 15x7 wheels
235/60/15s all around (F60-15) - "think" '69 H/O
245/60/15s all around (G60-15) - "think" '70 GSX
one size up 255/60/15 (H60-15) - might be too big on the front, check clearances
up again 275/60/15 (L60-15) - not the greatest fit on a 7" wheel, but fit & look great on the rear
or some combination of the above

Tom, I'm buying a set of 245/60r15 TA's today. When I get them mounted(still waiting for the wheels to be painted), Id be happy to bring them over to slap on if you want. They will be on 15X7 SSII's.
Thanks for all of the good info guys! Here I thought having the 15" wheels would be easy as far as having a plethora of choices...guess there are still more choices than for the 14's on my 70 F85. CLINT, I will give you a call and see when we can get together and try out the fit of your new tire.

I run 15's out back with 275/60/15 bfg's and up front i run cheapo 205 75 14 on an 14 in. rim . I love the look of big n littles but i can't bring my self to get rid of the rallye wheels they just look right on the car couldnt picture it any other way.
Here is my 69 with 275/60R15 on 8" rims in back and 255/60R15 on 7" in front. I like the bigger tires with aftermarket wheels. If using 15x7 stock style wheels (SSI or SSII) I would stick to the same size all around like the 245/60.
Can you tell if your 255/60R15's rub in the front. I'm planning on having 255's mounted on 15x8 rims tomorrow, front & rear, on my 67 Delta... wondering if I should make a last minute change to 245's up front. It looks like there's plenty of clearance to me, but I'd hate to end up with 2 tires I can't use!

Posting these photos for you to help you visualize the way my combo looks on one of my 1969 442s.
Front 235 60 15s on 7" rims with 4.25" BS
Rear 255 60 15s on 8" rims with 4.50" BS
These are repo rims from Specialty Wheel in OR USA

I think the stance / rake of the car is about right & the tires are large enough to fill the wheel wells without being too large. I do not care for a front tire wider than 235 as I feel that they steer really heavy & track road grooves. This car has 3.23 gears so the 27" tall 255 rears is a good compromise with the T400 trans as this car is a driver.
Hope you like the pics.

On the EBay car the 225/60 look too short & the rear wheels need more offset so they tuck under the back.
275/60 match up with 225/70 up front. if you go 255/60 215/70's match up height wise. If you want wider tires up front go 245/60.
If you are running 7" rims out back 275/60's look too bulbous when mounted IMO. I'd go 255/60.

I hope so! I just dropped off my new wheels & tires to be mounted/balanced. They're gonna mount 2 of them first... I'll pick them up this afternoon and try them up front. If there's any clearance issues, I'll use them in the back & exchange the other 2 tires for 245's. I'd like to have the same size all the way around so I can rotate them front to back... but if I have to run 255's in back & 245's in front that's what I'll do. When I ordered the wheels I also ordered some 1/4" wheel spacers just in case I need them. Thanks for the help!
68 442 Tires Sizing
Ive seen a ton of different info and was hoping someone could chime in on this.
I love the staggered/Raked look and have a 68 with new cargo coils and shocks in the rear as well as new heavy duty springs up front.
Have some heavy duty front and rear sway bars going in soon.
I have a set of 4 Crager SS's in the garage with 275/60/15's all around. The tires are shot and was thinking maybe stay with 275/60/15 in the rear and perhaps 245/60/15 up front?.......Should this fit and work?.....Should it give the look I am going for?
Also....4 wheel drums on this ride.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

I can tell you that the front 245's with a heavy front sway bar are going to rub.
FYI, while the original thread is two years old, the reason why the ebay car above has only 225/60-15s is because the aftermarket wheels on that car have too much offset, causing the tires to rub on the fender opening. Look at how much the tires stick out of the wheel wells on that car.
This depends on the exact width and offset of the wheels being used. My 69 H/O has the stock HD front sway bar and has no problems with 255/60-15 BFGs on the stock 15x7 SS II wheels. There is a slight rubbing of the fender lip on hard bumps at full steering lock (as when you enter a driveway too fast), but not on the sway bar.
