I am getting ready to replace the tires that were on my 75 Hurst Olds when I bought it. They are 245/60R15's which I believe are 26.6 inches in diameter. I believe the car came with HR70-15's which are 27.9 inches in diameter. I am looking at Diamond Back 235/70 R15's. Has anybody used this size tire on a 75 Cutlass, I know the back will be fine I am curious if the front turns without rubbing. I am running the stock Super Stock III wheels. I am pretty sure I will be okay but just thought I would ask my Oldsmobile brethren.
I had 235 70R15 whitewalls on my 74 Salon for 20-some years. Nice ride and handling, no turning issues. Unfortunately, when I went looking for 'correct' replacements, Uniroyal, which started making whitewalls again, only go to 215s. The only other whitewalls in 235 70r15 are 640 EACH.. I ended up stepping down a tad to Nexen 225 75r15s. They're fine but would've preferred the Tiger Paws..
Thanks for the feedback guys. I was pretty sure they would be okay, but it is good to confirm it. I will probably order the tires tomorrow. I am going to order gold line tires which I think will really look outstanding on the black car with the gold stripes and wheels. I have the gold paint for the wheels but I have to pull them all and get the current tires taken off. I think I am going to have the wheels media blasted since they have been repainted once before. I will post some pictures when it is done. The lead time from Diamond Back is now about four weeks.
