14" tire question

Guys,
I need some advice...
I have 3.73 gears in my cutlass. It is powered by a 455, backed by a TH400. The problem I have is that I have the stock 14" wheels with 235/60/14 tires.
When i am cruising at 60 or so, the rpm's are at about 3800.

I would like to keep the stock wheels, but I am not sure what size tires I should put on the back in order to bring my rpm's down to something respectable.

Any thoughts/reccomendations will be GREATLY appreciated.

The first thing you need to do is calibrate you speedometer and tachometer. With those tires and a 3.73 rear end, at 60 mph your engine is spinning almost dead nuts on 3000 rpm. Not 3800.

Having said that, those tires are about an inch to inch-and-a-half too small diameter, as compared to the originals. So you could drop the rpms about 4 - 5% just by using the right size tire. 225/70R14 would be better.
