1973 Cutlass: 14x8 front wheel/tire clearance?

I have my eye on a cheap set of Cragars locally with nice new rubber. They’re 14x8 and 14x8.5. Will a ‘73 cutlass be able to clear an 8” wide front wheel? I’m not sure on the backspacing of these wheels yet, but being that they’re basic 14” Cragars I can’t imagine they’d be too far off from stock.

They should fit fine. However, the tire availability for 14" wheels is getting extremely limited. I would suggest waiting and looking for a set of 15" wheels.

The width of the wheel is pretty much irrelevant. Tire size and wheel OFFSET are what matter.

I didn't know about the 14" availability issues. Thanks for the heads up. I'll look for other wheels then.

Curious, what size tires they found to fit such wide 14" rims? Basically a 225/70R14 is as good as it gets for a decently, tall, wide and affordable 14" tire.
