19" on a 72 Cutlass... Go or NO go?!?

Hi,

Im doing a LS1 brake upgrade on my 72 Cutlass and need new wheels to get the clerance i need for the new calipers/rotors. I have been running original 14" and I really like them and the way they look, but since I have started the "Pro-touring project", they had to go...
I test mounted these weels:
Dotz Mugallo 8.5x19 and 9.5x19 with 245/40-19 and 275/40-19.

Now... I like the rims, but fear they are to big, well, atleast in the beginning. They are now growing on me and I need opinions before its too late!!
I was originally thinking 17", but had to try the 19"
Go or no go?

Thanks!

Morten

Don't worry about others opinions, the only opinion that matters is yours.

Just remember that changing to bigger wheels and skinnier tiers will drastically change the ride quality of your Cutlass. There's a lot less sidewall in those tires to flex and absorb bumps.

19's are a "performance" size wheel and the tires are expensive. Hardly any all season tires available, mostly summer tires and track tires. If I had known this before buying wheels I wouldn't have 19's on my f85

Better tire selection for 18" wheels

You'll have more tires to choose from with an 18" rim and the LS1 brake hardware should fit fine inside most 18" rims and a few 17" rims as well. I'll be running 245-45-18 & 285-40-18 on 18x8 and 18x9 rims. May car isn't running yet but the overall height of these tires will be around 27" which is close to the OEM G78-14s that came on it from the factory.

They look good. If they ride and handle to your liking, why switch? Even finding wider tires that are right height for the 18" rims on my 2010 Challenger is tough.

Those look good too me, but as others have said its only your opinion that matters. Also as cdrod said, there are more size options in 18 and they are cheaper as most 19" tires are found on European luxury cars. I'm running 18/19 combo on my 72...
