17" wheels

For 17" rims on a '68/'69 Cutlass, I see ALOT of folks use 245/45/17s on an 8" wide rim, which would require a staggered set to use 275/40/17s on a 9" wide rim on the back. My question is, will a 275/40/17s on a 9" wide rim fit on the front of a '68/'69 Cutlass (stock suspension) without rubbing something? I'd rather have the same size tires all around so I can rotate, but REALLY want to use a 275-width tire on the back.

PS: I think I already know the answer (NO), because my current 245/60/14s (same overall dimension as 245/45/17s) barely rub the sway bar on the front. But would another inch of offset correct this, or just cause the tire to rub something on the outside?

(PS to Admins: Thanks for moving this post to its own thread)
