Hi All,

Anybody out there running 16" wheels on their 2nd gen Cutlasses?

I can't seem to find many wheels available in 16". It seems as though the majority of the wheels are available these days in 15" and then they jump to 17", 18" etc etc.

I'd much prefer to NOT run too low a profile tire on my '71 convertible. I'd like to keep to no lower than a 50 series.

I don't know if I've ever seen that size for a GM bolt pattern 5x4.75? Why not 17"? The wheel wells on these cars are big, it still won't look out of place on a car that size.

 

Mainly because I don't want to have to use too low an aspect ratio tire.
Most of the www sites list 45 series tires for a 17" rim fitment.

Got... You're most likely going to be looking at a Torque Thrust style wheel find the right look, size, backspacing.

 

Yeah, I have no problem with torque thrust wheels, but it seems like every other car has them

 

Yes they are popular. But they won't go out of style after a brief period like most aftermarket wheels do. And they're available in all sorts of widths diameters and backspacings to fit whatever the owner has.

For these reasons I put them on my non-Olds.

 

You do realize that the "second gen Cutlasses" are the 64-67 cars, right?

Huh? You DO realize that this is the same bolt pattern as Camaros, right? There are BAZILLIONS of 16" wheels. A ten second search shows 229 16" wheels that fit a 1975 Camaro at this website alone.

 

Ooops! my bad. in any case mine is a 1971.....



Joe, does the Chevy Camaro use the same offset etc etc?
when specifying a 16" diameter, the selection is somewhat less......

If you are worried about sidewall, a 245/50/17 measures 26.3" in overall diameter. Shorter than the stock tire but close. With the right offset they'll go on np.


A 245/50/16 will obviously be shorter overall & not fill up the wheel well as much.

Any idea of the correct offset on a 17" wheel to fit the 245/50 tire size?

My car has 2nd gen F body spindles with Hotchkis upper arms and so it sits a little lower than stock up front.

I am considering the Magnum SSI wheels from year one: https://www.yearone.com/Catalog/whee...-magnum-wheels

but their site states the correct fitment is for a 245/45 tire.
