15” SSII and SSIII Widened Wheel Source

I’ve had an advertisement in my marketplace feed for a while for a local fella selling beautiful, chrome plated 15” SSIII wheels for what I considered to be a very reasonable price. I say this based on the cost of plating, the availability of rim hoops and the sheer work/tooling required to fabricate them. I sent him a message inquiring if he used a banding method to widen or if he was using new spun rims. He responded that he used new spun rims. After some discussion he told me that he was the founder of Wheel Vintiques (Mike Stallings) and he was fabricating his wheels in his shop two miles from my house. After selling Wheel Vintiques in 2012 to Coker Tire, he was unable to sell his wheels for ten years per non-compete agreement. The period has expired and Mike is now producing these wheels in any width, offset, fully chrome, rim chrome or steel finish. They are VERY well built, I stopped by to visit him last week. If anyone you know is looking for this service on any Mopar,Ford,GM (insert maker), I’d suggest you reach out to him and ask what he can do for you. He seems like a professional person and has a great pride in the quality of his product. He can be reached at Stallingsmike1@gmail.com. I sure do wish that he’d been around my neighborhood when I was building mine. It would have saved a lot of legwork!!😀. ‘69 Hurst replicas anyone??!!

That is AWESOME info! Thanks. I have a stockpile of 14" SSIIs with bolt in centers that I plan to harvest the wheel discs out of for exactly this. Getting my 69 H/O wheels correctly disassembled and plated was going to be problematic.

No, Mike as mentioned, was the original founder of Wheel Vintiques. He has been semi retired since 2012 and is now fabricating the wheels on his horse/longhorn ranch in his shop. No affiliation.

Good info Heath. How is the quality of the new Hoops compared to the old OEM steel?

Better. DOT approved shells. I currently have him building a set of two 15x10 and two 15x8 steel poverty cap wheels to be powdered in satin black. I’d already purchased the same wheels previously from a mutual friend, but later realized that they were for designed for track use only. I sold the lightweight wheels at Pate. Pics when I receive them.👍

Finally got around to meeting Mike and his wife Sherrie at the Pate Swap Meet last week. He is now putting together a set of all chrome SS1 wheels for my '70 SX.
He had a couple singles at the swap meet and they looked really good. I should have mine in a few weeks. I can't wait.
Rear - 15 x 8. I'll be putting 255/60R15 on these.
Front - 15 x 7. I'll be putting 235/60R15 on these.

Mike and Sherrie and some really cool people and I enjoyed spending time chatting with them.
Very knowledgeable, straight shooter and easy to work with.
Thanks for passing his info on to me Heath!

Got my new wheels from Mike a few days ago. They look great.
The rears are 15 x 8 with BFG T/A 255/60R15
The fronts are 15 x 7 with BFG T/A 235/60R15
I should have them on the car in the next couple of days.

After refusing a set of heavily damaged 17 inch Year One rally rims from Summit in March and then re-ordering them in August only to find out they are no longer being made, I saw this post and immediately spoke with Mike in late October. Great guy, easy to talk to and very knowledgeable. Ordered a set of 15 x 10’s and 15 x 7’s right then and there. They just arrived today and I cannot be any more pleased! No other choice in my opinion. Vin

Forgot I was supposed to post pics after getting these wheels mounted.
I'm really happy with how they look and the stance is right on.
Rears: 15x8 245/60R15 Height: 27.5" ground to center of wheel well
Fronts:15x7 245/60R15 Height: 25.75" ground to center of wheel well
(btw, the front brakes are factory disc)

So happy that you were able to re-acquire this beautiful car. I’m also happy that you are pleased with Mike’s work. That is a proper rake for a 70-72 Formal A body.
