Question Axle Seals On A '65 Vista?

I did rear axle bearings on my Vista. I ordered the parts from Kanter....I was under the impression the '64 and '5 rear axle seals were not the same as '66-'68. I explained this to Kanter, and they agreed that they knew this. Well, low and behold, they sent me seals marked '66-'68, and they don't fit! I called them, and said they would "look into it". Well, a couple weeks later, they call me back and say that if the bearings fit, the seals should fit, and since the bearings did fit.....the seals should be correct. I again explained that the outer diameter of the seals are fine, but the inner diameter is too big. They asked me to send them back to them. I did....they called me back again and said what they had said the last call. So, my question is, am I correct that '64-'65 vista cruiser axle seals are different size compared to '66-'68 vista seals? If so, where can I find a set? Thanks!

It sounds like you need a response from someone who is intimately familiar with both axle assemblies. My information may muddy the water. I looked in the 1965 and the 1966 Olds parts books. They seem to indicate that both the bearings and seals were different, but it is not clear. Here's what they show:
For the 1965 book:
Group 5.822 Seal, rear axle shaft inner oil
1965 exc. F85, J88............................................... ......388357
(this is the only part number shown for the seals)
Group 5.855 Bearing assy., rear wheel
1964 & 1965 F85 V.C. ................................................90 7690

And in the 1966 book:
Group 5.822 Seal, rear axle shaft inner oil
1966 V.C. .................................................. ......................1376776
(It also has the "diamond" following the part number which is supposed to indicate that the part "has application prior to the 1966 models".)
Group 5.855 Bearing assy., rear wheel
1966 V.C. .................................................. .......................393473
(no diamond following the number)

Perhaps you could take the old seals to a bearing/seal dealer and do a match up.

Did they send you the 8594S seal,or what was the part number? Some of those rears use a different bearing, but still have the same seal.
