Help! I swung out my tailgate and accidentaly closed the bottom latch that allows tailgate to lay flat. I cannot figure how to release the bottom latch so I can shut the gate. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

Do you have an owners manual for the car? Did you try lifting the inside latch release again?

 

I do, but they do not address that. I just fixed it, a little involved but not bad. The release mechanism has built in stops for the 2 different handles. I loosened the bolt (the pivot point for the bottom latch) and that allows enough slack to release the bottom latch but in that position you cant put it back together until that bottom latch is closed.I held onto the door and placed the latch onto the catch post? and it clicked on allowing me to lay it flat and reattach the pivot point and problem solved. I'm not sure if that is the right way but it worked. Any VC owners out there do not close that latch with door open...ever! Now ready for Homecoming this weekend!
