A project that my friends and I are working on is missing its rear seat. It’s a ‘72 Vistacruiser 2 seat. We’ve located a ‘72 rear split seat and are wondering how difficult it would be to install in the 2 seat car. The difficulty would determine if we purchase the split seat. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
What floor mounts are in the car now? The split seats have 7 mounting points (3 across the front edge of the foot well and 4 on the flat area under the seat). My 64-67 Chevelle wagons all only have 2 mounting points (outer edge by the door under the seat). If 68-72 is the same, you would need to make the other mounting points on the floor. It should be fairly straight forward to mark the new mounting points with the seat in the car. Then you would just need to make some plates with bolts to weld to the floor. I looked through all of my resto pics and this is the only photo I could find without carpet.
I also went out and took some photos of the mounts in my car.

Hope this helps
BTW Scott, yesterday I tested the converted FM radio I got from you at Carlisle on Thursday and it still works great.
Thanks again,
Tom
Tom has a lot of good info. As he mentioned, the 3 seat models had extra brackets welded in that had the mounting studs. If you could find a 3 seat car to cut out the brackets that would be ideal. Ironically, the 3 seat models have the front mounting provisions for the 2 seat models 2nd seat. But that's opposite of what you're trying to do.
I have my 2nd (split seat) out, I can take pictures of the brackets if that would help.
Pictures would be great as would measurements to the outboard mounts. If the outboard mounts are the same and we just need to worry about the spit seats inboard mounts it may not be too hard.
Here are 2 pictures of the mounting plates. I didn't take any measurements because the outboard mounting studs for the split seat are canted, whereas the non split seat outboard studs are inline and I don't know if either lines up with the non split seat studs. I could use the seatbelt anchor as a reference assuming its in the same place for both seats. LMK
Top of the pictures is towards the back of the car.
Good to hear. As Tom mentioned, if you cut out the brackets from the cutout section of floor, and place the seats you should be able to get them pretty close to factory.
