Hello:
I just acquired a 1971 Custom Cruiser (White/Brown/3 seat/wood sides and roof rack). It has a 455 2V and I have been trying to find the horsepower rating of this engine. I will be picking the car up in a few weeks. Thanks for any help.

Cool car if that's it.

The net SAE horsepower is 185 @ 3600 rpm.
Gross brake horsepower is 280 @ 4000 rpm.

I would recommend you procure a chassis service manual, which everybody should have for their respective year Olds anyway...by law , and the Fisher manual.
The Fisher manual has all the tailgate stuff which is good to have if there is a problem with those gates.

 

This is the car from Kentucky. I'm excited to have it.

I know I'm a tad late in saying this, but welcome and congrats! The 1971 CC is my dream wagon. Not to mention having a '71 CC and a '71 98 would be a pretty sweet pair.

According to "Setting the Pace," the '71 Custom Cruiser could have been had in 280 or 320 horsepower versions.

Other info about your car: Original base price was $4,651. The 2-seat version was a bit cheaper at $4,509. Production of the 3-seat version was 9,932, which was more than double the number of 2-seat wagons, of which 4,409 were produced. The only engine available on any of the '71-'76 Custom Cruisers was the 455. Custom Cruisers had the same wheelbase as the 98, and that was 127 inches. But the 98 beat it in overall length at 226.1 inches to the Custom Cruiser's 225.3

The 3-seat Custom Cruiser wagon was the heaviest of any Oldsmobile built in the '71-'76 era, with the '71 weighing in at 5,107 lbs. It was the only Olds to weigh more than 5,000 lbs. Of the '71-'76 Custom Cruisers, the heaviest was the 3-seat '74, which tipped the scales at 5,300 lbs.
