1969 Vista "Hurst Tribute" on Gateway Auto
Certainly not my cup of tea. I'd describe it more as a Hurst 'Fantasy' car opposed to a 'Tribute'... I just think a 'Tribute' is more in relation to something that actually existed...
For that effort, I'd much rather have a nicely restored white 1969 Vista Cruiser.

Well, looks like my opinions have much company on this subject then. After viewing it the fist time I thought " I know WHY they did it it, money. But why in the world would anyone in their right mind actually like it?".
I think it's kinda neat, like a car that would have been used to promote Hurst in 69. But that wing wouldn't make it off the lot. That just looks absolutely stupid. And the Western Auto steering wheel would have to go too.
Personally I love seeing dealers eat it on cars like this. What a joke that spoiler is. What in the BLEEP was someone thinking? Probably could have gotten away with a lot of the other crap but that pushes it too far. Wagon market is already thin to begin with and getting thinner as we all get older. Gateway throws plenty of questionable cars out there. Zero surprise it's theirs
OK, Clearly the first and most obvious annoyance is the wing, although I don’t find it half as offensive as the Gawd-awful elephant tusk Hurst prototype. Not that I don’t appreciate the historical significance, but that is next level ugliness and there is a reason why it did not happen. Yes there are many deviations. (many that could be very easily corrected) I think it presents as somewhat dingy, and requires a good detail and finish refreshing, scoop fitment. Steering wheel,gauges,A6 system, new oil pan, air cleaner, open face/internal regulator, correct wheels, serpentine delete, and so on and so on. I like the concept, but I hold short at the execution. Somewhat reminiscent of the Indy Pace Vistas. Removal of the wing would be A1 priority.
Questions. What kind of heater control is that? Why are there lables on all the dash controls? Is that not an original dash? What kind of shifter box is that? Are the wheels the correct color even for a Hurst Olds? Why doesn't the upholstery pattern on the seats match? I think I know the answwer to some of these questions but it looks like so much was just added on without care to make it look homogenous.
