1954-1956 owners

Just wanted to ask you 54 to 56 owners what parts on these years are interchangeable. I have a 56 4 door and I want to know for a rear bumper, only a 56 or others years work? Also fender skirts. Thanks guys.

Bumpers are '56 only and I believe fender skirts too since the wheel opening is different on '56.

Is yours a sedan or a pillarless (Holiday)?

Sedan. It's a super 88. I was told from the previous owner.

I think the rear bumper will fit (bolt up) off a 55 but will not look correct.Pull up some image off of google and see if you could live with it....Tedd

Ok. The previous owner roll panned the rear end. So I want to put a bumper back on it.

Doors will interchange between the 54-56 and I believe the deck lid, but the nose sheet metal is 56 only as is all the trim except windshield and rear glass.

Dash is 56 only. Most other interior pieces will interchange but may not necessarily be 'correct'. 56 changed from the "world" insignia on the steering wheel to the 'stars' - but they will interchange.

Engine will interchange but they do have '56 only heads and other things. '56 started using the Jetaway transmission but some still used they Hydra-matic. If you have "Park" you have the Jetaway, if no "Park" you have a Hydra-matic.

'56 also started using a rag joint for the steering where 54 and 55 did not.

A lot is different...a lot is the same. If you have specific questions post them up.

Good to have you here...we need more

I was just trying to find out information on this. I have a 55. Got a guy close to me that has a 54 he is parting out. I could use a more solid hood. My gut tells me they are different. Are they? or can they be swapped?

The part number for the 1954 Olds hood is 564869; for the '55 it's 566563. I don't know if they will interchange. Hollander shows no interchange for the 1955 Olds hood.

The two hoods have a very different look and if they did interchange the car would look strange to me. Google up a few images and look at the difference... Tedd

I didn't think so. With all the different angles of pictures that people take, it isn't the easiest to tell. Thanks for the help!
