I am getting ready to re-assemble and install the oil pan on my 57-98.
I took the Felpro gasket out to test fit and found an issue. The cork side pieces are fine but the front and rear rubber pieces are different. The length seams fine but on the end where the last alignment tabs are there is an extra chunk of rubber that doesn't look like it should be there. I have attached pictures below, shows old and new, for your comments…..anyone had this experience before?

Just looked at the catalogue and it says;
FEL-PRO Part # OS6412C Set
To Engine. Ser. No. A143819
From Engine. Ser. No. A146388 to A146764

My serial number is A198231…..not sure if that makes a difference. Guess an email to Fel-Pro is in order. I have verified that this is the stock motor as well.

I didn't know that there was any difference in any 371 oil pan gaskets or oil pans for that matter. I would be interested in your findings....Tedd

 

I wouldn't think so, every where I look they all seam to use the same set. I just can't see how the extra rubber on the end will let it seal properly.

Perhaps they are putting the 371( built on a 394 block) I've never compared internal gaskets on one of those....Tedd

 

I spoke with a guy from Federal Mogul (Fel Pro) and sent him some pictures. He says it is not the correct gasket and they do not carry the one I need….I did find an old set on E-bay which I have ordered and hope it is the right set. Looks like since I have a different serial number from what is listed on Rockauto that it is not suitable.

 

I received the gasket kit I found on E-Bay and it is correct!
This kit is FEL-PRO OS 6412 D-1 instead the kit Rockauto and others carry which is FEL-PRO OS 6412 C.
I have sent Federal Mogul an e-mail on this asking that they bring this old model back just in case any of you need one since the chance of finding an old set is slim.

I have the same issue and Felpro has two listings for the 57 Olds---one with the extra BUMPS and one without. The set from BEST gasket has both seals in it so you use the ones you need.

Suggestion on these old cars, use Best or Olson Gaskets in Washington---
