56 olds edelbrock carb swap
56 olds edelbrock carb swap
Just wondering if anyone has put an edelbrock/carter style carb on there 324 with an auto. I want to figure out how to make the linkage work correctly with the trans kickdown. If you have done this if you could post pics that would be awesome.
I put an edelbrock on briefly, first problem was an adapter to mount the carb then I made a bracket that mounted on the rear carb mounting bolt for the linkage to connect like it did on the stock carb. It ran ok but used twice a much gas as the stocker so I went back to the original carb and am still trying to figure out the hesitation of idle. Two rebuilds and three accelerator pumps and its getting better but not gone. So basically to answer your question if you have it mounted to the intake just make a bracket thats lets you connect up the linkage like it did on the original carb.
I hope so too lol. though my 96 Z/28 still only gets like 13 around town. I wont mind it anyway, the car will only be driven on weekends. My motor is also newly rebuilt so that may help. i also have an electronic ignition. Ill let you know when i get it on the road.
I have figured out what i have to do. in my case i need to get shorter rods that attach to the bell crank or just a shorter rod to go from the bell crank to the carb;and then I made a plate to bolt on the rear drivers side carb stud that I can bolt the bell crank to. Then the rest is just adjusting the linkages as needed. The only thing you have to do is figure out how to get the throttle linkage and the TV linkage to work in the right ratio. The TV linkage must be fully extended when the throttle is wide open.
