1956 Olds super 88 starter, SUCCESS !!

Several months ago the starter on the Olds took a crap (I knew it was coming there were signs) due to illness I was forced to put starter on a back burner. I contemplated my options, find a rebuilt or remove the factory starter and find a local rebuilder, I wasn't crazy about option two because I had to enlist the help of my son-in-law who's time is limited and I didn't want to have him have to come back twice so I opted for a reman so it would be a once and done in and out deal, well that proved difficult as the only reman I found on E-Bay quickly disappeared and I was now looking at option two, well I kept on searching the internet and stumbled upon a place called Snap Rebuilders out of Salt Lake City Utah they listed a Nippendenso style high torque gear reduction mini starter 1954 - 1955 Olds not sure why 1956 not listed, after some research and some help from the good folks here on C/O I found that the 55 and 56 Olds part numbers were the same so I called the folks at Snap rebuilders and spoke to there rep who assured me if the part numbers were the same it would fit so I placed my order, I was skeptical !! when it arrived I was impressed at the build quality and the size it was half the size of oem and weighed only 8 lbs !!, the flange mount is adjustable to 3 positions ,I did have to clock it to the middle position, so in it went !! no problem NOW the moment of truth !! will it start my beloved Olds ??? with my fingers crossed I turned the key and to my amazement she cranked like there

was no tomorrow !!! no grinds, no hesitation, no noise just crank and the Olds came to life !!! boy was I happy and relieved !!!
Looking at the difference between the OEM and this starter I would have said no way !! but I was wrong !!!
so hats off to Snap Rebuilders for providing me with a alternative !! I do plan on having the factory starter rebuilt but now I can do it at my leisure.

Congrats Solly and thanks for sharing that info with everybody. I am surprised somebody makes a high torque starter for a 54-56 Olds. Hope all is well with you and you are feeling better.
