1954/55/56 starter

Starter is destroyed on my 1955 324cu. Cant get it rebuilt because armature is ruined. cant find a replacement and apparantly they are different than any other gm starter i have. can i swap the nose cone with a different starter or does anybody know of a suitable repkacement that isnt 800$ by the time it gets to nova scotia¿ thanks

There is on on EBay (says rebuilt) for '54 Olds for $98 + shipping. Good luck,also a member named (scharpp) has some parts listed as a group, but maybe he would sell ou a starter. Good luck,

What is wrong with the armature? What is the Original starter part number?

Hollander says 1956 will fit 1955, but you might have to change the solenoid.

There "was" a 1954 in a yard on Old Gentilly Road in New Orleans, but I don't remember the name of the yard and don't know if it's still there.
