Hey guys can I get your opinions please? Does this "restored" carburetor finish look original to you guys? Meaning when these carbs were brand new is this what they looked like? The place who did it did one of the same ones that looked beautiful in gold color with no discoloration and they are trying to say this one is colored and the discoloration is normal and they looked this way new. Posted are two pics of it and the last is a pic of the same model the same place did years ago. To me that one looks colored and restored and the first two pictures look like it's an old used carburetor. I can't see a brand new carburetor looking like that from the factory. What do you guys think? Thanks!

 

The first 2 pics are of a carb that was cleaned and hopefully rebilt, but not restored. The 3rd pic looks like I would expect.

 

Thanks, that's what I thought, but they claimed it was restored.

The third almost looks like the carb renew paint. Or maybe zinc plated.
Carb body re-coloring has become more difficult due to the chemical restrictions. It is very hard to get good coloring in a body anymore, but most of us have some methods we attempt. Every carb is unique and some that have gone through commercial cleaning processes won't take color at all.
The first two pictures look like they didn't strip off old color, and just tried to dip and add some color on top of old, so it is uneven.
There are also so many color variations on the original finishes that it is hard to figure out the one to duplicate.
