55 Olds outside mirrors
Does anyone out there know the correct location of the outside rear view mirror on a 55 S88? I've seen them on the doors and some on the tops of the fenders. Which is correct? Thanks.

Most of them I have seen are on the door. Do the right side first and be sure you get it where you can see in it. On my 54 I did he drivers side first and then made the right side match it. The right side us totally useless. I think they look better on the door. Most I have seen are on the door.

Like said ,it's just a matter of preference.I prefer them on the doors, but Glen was right, mount the passenger side where it can be adjusted for you to see correctly and that the vent Windows still open. Larry

55 Outside mirrors
Thanks for the replies. I'll definitely be putting them on the doors then, passenger door first. I'm finally getting to the trim stages on this long project. Super 88 2 door hardtop with 71 Vistacruiser frame and 455 motor. Will try to get some pictures up when finished.

In looking through the '55 Olds brochures, almost none of the cars are shown with outside rearview mirrors. Only convertibles are shown with them. In some images, there is only a driver's side mirror. In others, both driver's and passenger side are shown.
Here's a Super 88 convertible. It's very easy to see where the driver's-side mirror is positioned. No passenger-side mirror is visible.
Here's a 98 convertible, and the passenger side mirror can be seen.

I mounted my right hand mirror last and unrelated to where the left hand mirror was and positioned it so I could see somewhat well behind the car. What helped the most was I then placed a 3 1/2 inch fish eye mirror on the right hand side(covers almost all of the original mirror) and lost all of those blind spots that plagued the car before. It's been almost 10 years and no judge or enthusiast has noticed the offset or the concave mirror on the right side ..... Tedd
