Won't kickdown

Won't kickdown
I've adjusted all the linkage as per the manual and the car seems to be shifting well now. But it just won't kick down!
I think I may be missing a spring on the linkage at the carb. Anyone have a picture of a stock setup. I definitely have a hole on top of the throttle linkage that looks like it would hold a spring....possibly for the kickdown?

The hole you referance is un used... The only spring is the one connected to the firewall assmbly. About 2 inches long and 1 1/2 in diameter.
I believe the book will referance the screw/bolt nut which pushes down on the assembly. Adjustment at the trans and pedal are critical. I made a cardboard measure tool to get the proper spacing for the pressure lever. The book (3-81, 57 shop manual) has to be follwed closely.
It has taken several weeks to get it right .

I don't have the spring. If I did, I probably would have figured out were it goes.
The linkage is a mess too. Something's not right because when I followed the steps in the manual, I got to the step about adjusting the shift linkage and could not adjust it to within spec. I had the rods shortened as far as they would go and still couldn't get it into spec.
I'm not sure if they're bent or have been swapped for the wrong pieces somewhere along the way.

Jaymann: Owe you more info.... The spring(which prevented proper upshift into 3rd) was also missing from the bell crank, and had not been on the 98 for some time. Spring clip attaches to the hole on bell crank and keeps an upward pull on the trans pressure rod so to be insink with carb linkage..
Summary... 2 springs, one on firewall and one on the bell crank.
Fletch.
