Nice portable setup you got there! Yeah, the fun part is putting it all back together with everything cleaned up. Hydromatic is next, then the engine bay.

You can use the oil filter housing off any 394 and convert it to spinoff type if oraginality isn't important. (it was to me) but many do. I've heard the repo housing have a bad rep for leaking but I haven't tried one myself.... Tedd

Thank you guys, I ordered a tap and die set to see if I can chase the threads? The cross thread is only about 1/4” deep.
We’ll see if I can salvage it?

What bolt/thread size is it ? Is it threaded all the way through ? If it is, you can screw a bolt from the back side to straighten the threads a bit. You might get lucky with a tap, but when something gets cross threaded, it mucks up the lead thread and you can cross thread it again. You might have to consider removing (grinding) the first thread or two. OR buying a replacement part.

It’s a 9/16-12 thread. No, it’s a blind hole, great suggestion! I’ll resort to buying a replacement part if I bugger it up anymore then I already have!

Looks like you’ve done a lot of work. Good job on that exhaust fix! Cast is not that easy to braze and make pretty.

Hydramatic 55-R

Making some slow progress on the trans cleanup...
I purchased a gasket kit for it and installed it while I had had the bell housing and rear drive housing apart!

Been slow progress with all the craziness going on in our Nation! Hope all of you are safe and well?
Been trying to focus on the engine bay prep, so much crap from all these years in there.
The battery tray needed a new base so I fabricated a fix.

Some of the thin areas blew through in the weld but managed to patch those to make it work.
Should have no problem holding a battery now?

Just total stripped down my 57 Olds 98 2 door HT. I have had it for about 40 years and rebuilt the J2 engine back then and then just have been leaving it sit. Dumb on my part. Other things got in the way but a few months ago i pulled it out and started on it.The motor rebuilt and the chrome all done 40 years ago. Now i have the body and doors stripped to bare and then painted it all with epoxy primer. That's where i am at and still have a long long way to go. Mark.

Crankcase ventilation had most to do with it. After PCV was introduced, residue had less of a chance to settle on its surroundings

Looks good, I’m in the same boat as far as hood repairs go. I’m following along with your progress.

Happened to my car, and mine wasn't salvageable, amounted to $8000 bucks to get it shipped, repaired/replaced. Not a good memory... Make it safe...... Tedd

Insurance paid for it (the other guys insurance). Happened when a mechanic didn't latch it correctly, messed up a lot, windshield ,both fenders and the tacoed hood, new paint on the front end and a newish hood shipped from Arizona. Been a while and I'm finally over it I think , stuff happens.... Tedd

Once you get the 396 dropped in, this should be the look on your pet's face, once the pedal hits the metal:
