Ive been eyeballing a 54 super 88, it needs plenty, floor, trunk pans, lower patches along with some missing conv chrome. Needs a deck lid, pass door, rear seat, is this conv only? Has a top frame and good shape windshield frame and cowl, but no inner or outer trim/ stainless. No wing chrome or windows. Ive redone a 63 conv but nothing of this era. any help with this is appreciated.

Does anyone know if the conv chrome on the windshield and tub interchange to another GM, or will I be searching swap meets and CL for the next 20 yrs? I hear buick century will work, but I don't have any hollinder exchange books, thanks...

On a 55 (this is my only thing to compare to) the window chrome and top bows and doors are the same as a Buick Century but I don't know if this follows through with a 54. The trunk lid may be a convertible only thing also because of the needed space for the top shortens up the space between the lid and the back rim of the car. I haven't put a tape on my car to prove this but was told this by another convertible owner at the Nationals that this was the case. If it becomes a issue I can surely measure it and compare with another car.The side chrome, window frame and wind wings should all be the same as a two door hardtop if 54's follow like 55's and also be the same as a Buick Century except the side chrome which naturally would be different. I don't know about the back seat but if you know of another two door hard top we could put a tape on it and tell in a hurry. I would be glad to help in any way I can just let me know I would sure like to see another convertible saved of this era ....Tedd
Thanks Tedd, I may check back with you on this. I called an upholsterer today seems all conv rear seats are unique due to the room needed for the top pistons. He said I could construct my own with layered density foam, not my first choice. Should have known as mopars are this way, just wasn't sure with GM. I did some calling around as well locating some conv parts, located new patch pans, green tint glass and some door window frames.
ok, looks like the conv trunk lid is 48 1/8th measured edge to edge. This is from edge nearest top mech to edge near the bumper, centered on the medallion (medallion is missing on the measured lid).
I went yard hunting yesterday (25 degrees out it was great), seems to be a lot of 4drs and post cars close by. I did find a 54 buick conv and not sure if it will interchange. I've ordered an interchange book , but not here yet. Does anyone know if this will work?

I bet that Buick lid will work if it's not sprung to much, did you put your tape on it. I'll measure mine tonight....Tedd

I realize this is a bit late to the dance floor, but have a look at the Classic Car Database. All you have to do is enter the information from your VIN or cowl and it gives you a snapshot of the car, and general specifications.

The buick is complete rust! most panels are separated (Intergranular type), all that's good is the stainless, maybe some dash stuff. even what's left of the seats is ready to return to earth. The measurement I got on the trunk lid is from the current conv owner. I do appreciate your offer thou. The conv owner claims it will interchange with a hardtop along with side windows and doors. I'm planning another trip to the yard, but there are no hardtops there to compare so Ill check post and 4dr cars.
Hi Allan, Thanks for the response (not too late at all) Ill check that out, it does help. I'm learning lots with internet access that wasn't around when I first learned how to work on cars.
From the looking around that Ive done (buick sites) it seems the Buicks have large and small bodied cars (like 98s and 88s of this era) So Im learning buick talk as well. I'm getting conflicting stories on Pontiac and Cadillac interchange, but all agree chevy wont work.

ok, We took the long journey and picked her up.
1st pic loaded up and ready to hit the road
2nd pic 3 hrs. of freezing rain thru Iowa we were glad to get to the hotel.
3rd 2000 plus miles, 40 mph headwinds thru ND back safe n sound, going into cold storage while parts gathering starts.
4th Tony had a nice original 1933 Buick
1st pic loaded up and ready to hit the road
