rebuilding a 303 rocket engine
hi, I took my block to a machine shop, and I was told I have a taper in my cylinders, and that I need to have it bored out and buy new pistons. is this correct? or can it just be honed? my crank is still standard. any info would be appreciated. also does anyone know the best place to purchase a complete rebuild kit?
thanks, zeppigio

If the bores are tapered, and/or egg shaped, then yes it will need to be bored. There is plenty of "meat" in the 303, so yes, it can be bored out without issue. Do not order pistons until you know for sure the amount of the oversize bore amount. Egge Machine Company can make new pistons for you. The crank is a separate issue. Egge may have full kits, and bearings as well. Make sure to replace the timing chain, and oil pump as well. Also the cam & lifters if it's a high miler. If you do pistons & bearings, it's a good idea to do the valves & valve seals at the same time, as the compression will be higher with new pistons. There is lots more, I'm just hitting the highights of a proper full rebuild.
