Newbie with 1956 Olds 88

Hi everybody, i´m new here at CO, i really enjoy this forum because of the cool rides and the good answers you get here!
My ride is a 1956 Olds 88 Holiday 4 dr ht, i bought this car about 2 years ago from a classic car dealer in Glendale, Arizona, they helped me with the export to Sweden where i live.
The car is in pretty good shape, the most of the car is unrestored with about 85 000 miles on it. When i bought it, the dealer helped me with changing the cloth in the seats to a cloth with original pattern, he also changed the headliner and rechromed the bumpers.
Since i got it, it´s been partially repainted and a little rust in a front fender fixed.
The engine and hydramatic is most likely not renovated, the engine runs very good and the Hydramatic is very smooth (yes it´s true!)
The original paint is Ice Green and Alcan White, but i really dig the color it has now.
I really love this car, i bought because i wanted a ´50´s, and i feel in love with the car the second i saw the pictures of it.
When it´s summer and nice weather, i take spin and go to different meetings and swaps for people how own and love american cars.
The pics with the text "paparazzicruising" is taken by a guy who like to photograph american cars at different cruisings in Sweden, look at his site, there´s a lot of nice cars in Sweden!

Hi Dave, awesome rides you have and had!
A friend of mine has a ´63 88 dynamic ragtop, an other has a 65´ 98 4 dr HT and another friend has a ´49 88 4 dr, so i have lots of friends who owns Oldsmobiles! If i think a little harder i will surely remember some other pals that own Oldsmobiles, they are pretty popular in this parts of the country

Beautiful car and a great cruiser. Did somebody put tailights in place of the backup lights? They look red in the picture. I have never seen that done.

regarding red taillights

Hi Redoldsman, the red lights in the housing of the backup lights is actually reflectors, it´s obligated by law in Sweden to have red extra reflectors on older cars.

Since my car does not have the optional back up lights, i attached the reflectors with some office adhesive compound (strange maybe, but i don´t want to drill in the housing or the bumpers!) it actually works after two years!

I found reflectors that fit perfectly, it looks quite OK!

A lot of folk find the 63 to be a plain jane, and do not like it for that reason. Myself, I was attracted to the clean/simple lines, especially after the excess of earlier years, particularly 1958. I enjoyed my 63. It was kind of hard not to, as it was my first convertible.

When I bought it, I was working my way through college. I still had the 60 Super 88, as I did not trade it in (I later sold it outright). Was kind of hard to explain how a working college kid had 2 Oldsmobiles parked on campus!
