Hey guys about to install my new wheels and tires and Fusick hubcaps. Any recommendations on installing the new caps without scuffing them up? These are the 56 models so they don't have clips. Thanks!

 

I use a rubber mallet when installing wheel covers. Press and hold the hubcap on the wheel while you strike the hubcap firmly with the rubber mallet. It should only take one or two strikes to get the hubcap completely seated.

Be careful as some wheel balancing weights may interfere with the hubcap seating all the way.

 

Thanks guys! My wheels are brand new and each wheel only required one weight so they were put on the back one wheel and tire balanced perfect without any weight!

 

Well I got the new wheels and tires on used a couple hydraulic jacks in front of the rear tires to Jack the rear up a little from each jack at a time so I could drop the tires out of the fenders and all went well but getting the new Fusick hubcaps on is another story.. I put the end on with the hole for the valve stem and then try the mallet to work my way around but I get about a third of the cap on and it doesn't want to budge! How hard and where exactly on the cap should I be hitting it? Though about bending the teeth in a slight bit as that did it for my 55 Pontiac but if I grab with the pliars it distorts the metal a little and I won't want the chrome lip to be wavy.. Any ideas! Thanks!

 

Talked to Fusick they said you have to pound them on harder than you'd think you should be!

Thanks! Had to beat them with a mallet to get them on but at least I don't have to worry about them falling off! lol!

 

I know what you mean, you don't want to be too aggressive and damage them.

 

Yeah I agree I didn't have to hit them that hard but let's just say I hope my lug nuts torqued at 85ft/lb hold tight I do want to take them off anytime soon!

 

If they get taken off it probably won't be by you, thief's have love those fiesta caps sense the fifties. Good looking wheel and cap......Tedd

Good luck on your sale. I also was wondering if your car was solid black from the factory? We sold many '54 -'56 Olds through the years that I was in the used car business,and I never remember seeing a 98 2 door solid color.I think it is beautiful in solid black and just wondered if it came that way!
