Need some help-Valiant controls for Vets

I need some help. I have started a project to outfit an Oldsmobile with the "Valiant" controls that Oldsmobile used after WW2. and use it for display and car shows Long time old car and old motorcycle interests. Now retired I work part time in the Museum of disAbility History, Buffalo NY.where we have a British car that was made for their returning Vets (the Invacar). I have most of the literature on the Oldsmobile Valiant program and have read the recent articles. The next steps: 1. I have a nos set of controls for a 1957 Oldsmobile-the only set I could find. They are like new in original boxes with part numbers but do not have complete directions. I need the directions. 2. The story I wanted to tell was after WW2 but I am not sure that these controls will work on the 1946-1948 olds. thanks Jim

Olds Valiant Controls-update

I have the instructions. If they fit on a 1957 Olds what other years are they likely to fit? I need a Installation and Adjustment Manual for 1951-1957 Oldsmobile-I have other years. thanks Jim

Jim, do you have the 1948 Oldsmobile "Master Chassis Parts Book"? If so you have every resource I do. If not there are photos and drawings of the parts which were specific to "missing right arm" missing left arm" Missing both legs etc. By looking at the parts and comparing them to what you have you might be able to sort of 'reverse engineer' your way to a decision on whether you could fit the 57 items to 46-48. Keep in mind by 57 Olds had abandoned the inline 6 and 8 cylinder engines so throttle controls would likely not work the same.

The above titled book is available through Faxon Auto Literature
www.faxonautolit.com or 1-800-458-2734. They are at 3901 Carter Ave. Riverside, CA 92501.
The several pages showing Valiant Driving Controls might make an interesting part of a display in addition to what you have. Best of Luck.
Jerry

Jerry: Thanks for looking at this. I have Valiant control manuals up to 1952. The part numbers are different for the 1957. I will take a look at the Master Chassis parts book. Jim

My Dad had a friend who had a '57 Olds Super 88 with the Valiant hand controls as he'd lost his legs in WWII in the S. Pacific, where Dad fought. I remember seeing the car when I was a kid in the '50s when he came to visit us. It was a gold 4 dr.

holidaysedan-thanks I am hearing a lot of stories like yours. Mostly Oldsmobiles as they had the first factory disabled controls and auto transmissions -a few Fords. Jim

Did you check with the REOlds Transportation Museum to see if they could help?

REOlds Museum-I checked with them and although very helpful they have very little information-I am going to send them some information. More follow up, I have had a report of the controls installed on a 1965 442. I am now thinking of installing the 1957 controls on a 1954-1957 Oldsmobile and ordered a parts book to see what fits. thanks Jim
