I can't leave anything alone!
I picked up a 57 Buick grill for $60. I figured for that price I will make it a wall hanger or chop it up and put it in the 48 Chevy with the narrowed 56 Caddy bumper but I kinda like it better in the 56.
All I did was flip it upside down, it's just sitting in there loose right now.

Or cut it WAY down and put it in the 48 but I do have a set of 54 Desoto teeth that I might put in it....

Yeah we are still going with the slant I just need to find a cool intake for it because I stole the 4bbl Offy and put it on my 69 D100. We just bought a house and I just got the Olds so right now the 48 is a storage unit for all its parts and it is just sitting in the garage until I get the time to build my work benches in the garage and take care of a few house things.
I did pick up an extra pair of 56 Olds headlight rings that I am going to put on the 48.

Engine is now painted (still need to get the under side of the oil pan and do the filter conversion) and now I can run new vacuume lines and rewire the whole thing! I still need to Por15 the suspension and paint the engine bay but that might wait a little while because I need to get this thing on the road.

Been running new vacuum lines...geez! Got them all done today! I am getting a new power steering hose made tomorrow to replace the one that is almost dead, I need to check the trunk and see if there is another power steering pump in there because the one that was on the car has a crack in it's gutts, I have a new pair of 70 Challenger KYB shocks ready to go and I will be cutting at least one coil before the front end hits the ground again.
I still need to paint he under side of the motor. To day I painted the exhaust manifolds, heated up the oil pan with a torch so the old oil would flow better, pulled the drain plug and about 1 quart of water/antifreeze came out before the old oil did. This was the motor that was rebuilt and then someone decided to pull the intake off and only put all the bolts back on finger tight after they used silicone sealer all over the steel intake gaskets. It ran great, idled smooth and didn't make any weird noises before I tore the to end off. Plans are to put some new oil in, run it threw a few heat cycles then change the oil again and drive it until something bad happens.

Exhaust manifolds are painted and put back on I need to cut off the old purple hornies and put on the new Flowmasters that have been sitting on the shelf for a few years.
Oil filter adapter is on.
I also need to get a new power steering pump because the gutts of mine are cracked....anyone? The thing that I though was the top of an extra power steering pump that was sitting in a box in the trunk turned out to be a remote oil filter.
I am going to order a new wiring harness pretty soon so I can get rid of the old cracked stock harness. I am also going to wait to lower the front end until after I get the other parts car after the first of the year. That way I can rebuild the suspension parts from the parts car and just swap everything out in a weekend.

Here ya go...

At the bottom on page 92...
http://www.usapartssupply.com/upload...75_catalog.pdf
I looked all over and they were the cheapest at $10.97 a can (spray) I bought 3 cans and have only used one so far (not counting primer). I was quoted anywhere fro $16.00 to $21.50 a can at other places and couldn't justify paying that much for a can of spray paint that would be used on a daily driver.
I called USA Parts Supply, talked to some crotchety sounding old man (I liked him right off the bat, a no BS type of guy!) pretty much "What do you want?", gave him the part number and said 3 cans, gave him my card number and shipping info, he said "It will get there by UPS" and hung up! The whole thing took less than 5 mins and I had my paint a few days later!
They will be getting my business again!

Anyone have a power steering pump manifold they want to sell? I need one asap so I can put the pump back on.
I did get one of the NOS power steering hoses off ebay for around $30 shipped so I almost have the steering all wrapped up.

56 olds pumps interchange with 56 olds, pont, and buick
57 olds with 57 olds only
58 olds with 58 olds only
So what I get from this is 57-58 pumps might not bolt up to the 324 but have the same manifold inside. Hope this widens your search
Erit
btw doubt any one has an nos one but just in case these are the numbers listed for the manifold
5683874 w/o seals
5686904 w seals

Don't have a pump but some reference to help your search. According to my olds parts and acc catalog chassis edition the manifold interchanges out of 56-58 olds pumps. Also according to my 50-65 gm interchange manual

WOO HOO! Thanks!
Would you know if a 55 hood will fit on a 56 other than trim are they the same?
#25
Crap, well in that case if anyone needs a rust free/dent free hood for a 55 there is a yard in Arizona that has one along with 20 acres of old cars. They want $350 for the hood and I was quoted $100 to ship to Seattle. I can't remember the name of the yard but my dad has pics and all the info. I will get it when he gets back from the auctions down there. He says that it is a 56 with a 55 nose but I'm guessing that it is all 55.

Got a wild hair up my ***, threw in a battery and some gas down the carb and she fired right up and ran smooth! I need to drain all the bad gas out of the tank and fill it with some new gas, put the radiator back in and once the new wire kit gets here (this week) goto town and rewire it this weekend. I'm getting excited!

Toys came today, I know what I'm doing this weekend!!!
IMAG0076.jpg
Garbage can!!! I just had to start cutting. It was pointless to try and save anything, besides half of the wires just snapped off when I bent them. I still need to pull the gauge cluster out. I wish the dash frame could just be unscrewed and popped right out.

After gutting all the wires I decided to remove the seats and interior so I could work under the dash. I knew I was in for a little rust but after scraping all the duraglass away....

The driver side front is the worst but I will replace both driver and passenger sides along with any patches in the rear. I weld for a living and used to work in a street rod shop so it is no big deal to do this job, just a pain in the ***!
Anyone know anything about the front floor pans on ebay? They are cheap enough and seem like a good start. I don't feel like or have the time right now to fab up new ones.

So apparently sometime around 56 Corvette took over the production of the floor pans in the Oldsmobiles?!?!?!
There is good metal so I will have something to weld to. Anyone know how the floor patches on ebay are? Or is there someone else that sells better/bigger floor patches for a 56 Holiday?

Well I almost sold the Olds and bought a 51 Plymouth but I decided hell with it, I have the Olds, the 324 has been rebuilt so I will dump the cash I was going to spend on the Plymouth into the olds.
Heres what the plans are...
Weld in new 16 ga floor patches.
Install the new EZ wire kit.
Install Scarebird front disks and maybe even the rear disk kit, anyone done that yet?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...#ht_915wt_1008
Eventually I will get one of the Gambino Taildragger kits...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...#ht_2580wt_783
I have a set of 61-62 mopar head lights that I might install.
Drive the hell out of it!

Scarebird front brackets just ordered! I can't wait to get them! I will do a full step by step with actual coast when I get them.
So far the brackets cost $228.94 from the ebay buy it now auction # 370496368604
I am undecided as if I want to get the rear disk brackets but I thing I may end up doing it further down the road.

Well after a fun summer of going to car shows, hanging out with car buddies and rolling around Seattle in my 69 D100 short wide bed I am jumping back on the poor oldsmopile that has been faithfully sitting on jack stands in the driveway all this time. I cam across a guy with a 2 door hardtop that wanted to trade from my Ruger Mini 14 rifle. I just went and looked at the car tonight and I passed on the car (no title and the rust is worst in places than mine) but we are going to work a deal for some other parts he has.
56 324 4bbl motor with #10 heads. Was a runner, he pulled it because of a blown head gasket and he had another engine for the car.
4 speed auto transmission (will need a rebuild) with linkage and a rebuilt factory 4bbl carb
Rebuilt factory radiator that now flows some crazy number like 31gpm.
Old school 6x2 log intake (welded kind) no carbs but who cares, it's a log intake. I will run it on my 324 with the 4 corner carbs blocked off and just feed gas to the 2 centers and it will run just fine.
A pair of good hood hinges with springs! (probably most excited about these).
A bunch of misc. other parts that I need for my 4 door HT.
All this for my Mini 14 rifle that spends more time under the bed than being shot. I got the rifle in partial trade for a 360 mopar that I built a few years ago and I have only put about 100 rounds through the Mini 14 so it needs to go (still have my XD-40 though!).
100_7206-1.jpg
The extra 324 and tranny will get a rebuild and just sit in the garage until they are needed.
Right now I am working on my 69 Dodge d100 shorty daily driver. I have a new slant six that is 60 over with a 268 cam, 4bbl and headers, rebuilt overdrive 4 speed and a 4 link kit with new air bags that is all getting installed along with getting new paint in the next month while still staying a daily driver. We are going with a flat vanilla body with a gold metal flake roof and flaked interior (might flake the motor as well) and I am keeping the 56 Olds caps just because they just look good on the truck!

If you go to youtube and search for "flaking a roof" we filmed an 8 part series on the job.
I will be finishing the floors in the Olds pretty soon as the weather permits and I still need a decent hood and hinges in the Seattle area.

Coming soon, 55 2 door post!!! Going to take a look at it this weekend and if all goes as planned the rebuilt motor in my 56 will go in the 55 and the 56 will get parted out. We will see!
