Hydra-MAtic TV rod Adjustment

Working on 1964 Dynamic 88 Fiesta Wagon. Can anyone tell me how to adjust the TV rod at transmission without tool/gauge BT 33-1? Is there a measurement between the TV rod lever and the shift lever? Any pointers appreciated.

Steve, Great info! When I was installing the motor and tranny as one unit, I bent the TV rod lever. I eyeballed it back to where I thought it should be. Separate question. If the TV rod is out of adjustment would that affect the acceleration at operating temp? When she's warmed up when I give it fuel by hand pulling on the bell crank link, it sputters and backfires. I have the dwell at 30, timing at 2.5 degrees advanced, 91 octane fresh ethanol free fuel, new Points, plugs, wires, carb rebuilt. She starts right up and holds idle.
Second question: I refilled the tranny to the full mark on the dip stick idling engine warm. I tried just pulling it in and out of the garage and it's slipping. It wasn't doing this prior to pulling motor & tranny. When the tranny is cold, the fluid is way up on the dipstick. Is the slipping related to the TV cable, or is this a fluid issue?
My name is Vince Greco aka Cutman. I restored a 72 Cutlass S 15 years ago and liked that screen name. Living in TX, cars are typically rust free. The Cut was a 350/350. I did a frame off and put a radical 403 in it. I also had it painted to look like a 70 Ralleye 350 in 08 Velocity Yellow that they used on the Corvette that year. Your help on the above issues is really appreciated. Look forward to hearing from you.

ATF needs to be checked HOT idling in Park. Don't drive the car if the transmission is slipping. Get yourself that TV rod gauge and properly adjust it per the factory manual.

Ok, as I thought. Do you know the TV Rod being our of adjustment will affect the idle at operating temp?
