Guidance to mate 1957/1958 371 engine to 1955 hydromatic
I need guidance to mate 1957/1958 371 engine with manual transmission to 1955 hydromatic. Generally speaking i have lots of 1954/1955 engine and transmission parts but limited 371 engine parts. Thanks. Ron
Since you have a crank with a pilot bushing already , this is a simple " bolt in " swap .
'55 flywheel should bolt right up to the crank .
Bellhousing will bolt right up to block .
The only problem you will run into will be a severe imbalance in the engine .
The '57 and up engines are " offset balanced " , where the flywheel is purposely weighted on one side to make up for a lack of counterweighting in the crank .
A balance weight must be added to the '55 flywheel so it matches the imbalance of the '57 flywheel .
