Can anyone tell me the brake shoe thickness of new brake shoes? Im considering replacing the brake shoes on my 1949 Olds 88 in the near future. I measured my thickness using a modern gauge designed for brake pads. My current front shoes are 5mm thick (.1969 or 13/64th). That's at the tail end of acceptable for brake pads. Anyone know what's new for shoes? Im heading to Carlisle soon and could save on shipping if I buy from Fusic while Im there, but there's no sense replacing shoes If I dont need to. I drive this car A LOT in the warm weather! Put on almost 10,000 miles last year.

I do not know the answer to your question BUT the thickness of your brake shoe in your photo looks fine to me, no where near anytime soon needing replacement.
Standard Brake Shoe Linings are 1 / 4 " thick = .250.....
And rather than getting Chineseum garbage Brake Shoes, you would be farrrrrrrr better off with *** N.O.S. *** Asbestos *** Brake Shoes on a 1949 Oldsmobile.....
*** N.O.S. *** Asbestos *** Brake Shoes are the softest , smooooooothest braking system known to mankind, and will not rip up Brake Drums to smithereens --- and your Brake Drums
are N O T cheap.......

There is nothing wrong with the brake shoe linings currently on your car. Move on and fix something that IS broken.
I wasn’t looking to fix a problem. I was seeking understanding so I wouldn’t have one later. That’s wisdom at work.
Thank you to those that informed me of the 1/4” thickness. Now I have a reference point and am the wiser.
